The challenge
Politics is not an aspect that its commonly discussed and well-known by the younger generation, gen-z in particular. There is often a lack of awareness about voting, which is a very integral part of every citizen’s rights. However, there are not many platforms catering this problem, acting as a one platform for comprising all educational resources, and doing it in an intuitive way. As a result, most of the youth of today aren’t aware about voting process and feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the political system.

The Goal
Provide an engaging experience when it comes to voting education through a minimal and soft on eyes design language to appeal to the young adult audience. The app aims at helping the young generation to voice their opinions on politics and encourage them to make a difference by making informed choices.

User Research
I discovered that most of political educative platforms are not that popular. One of the reasons for it could be the vast gap among their platform experiences and what the users need. The designs of such apps don’t meet the requirements of its users, they’re often confusing. These apps are also hardly advertised and lacks in creating awareness with no efforts to focus on the younger generation. It is important to address these barriers and provide young people with the information and resources they need to participate in the democratic process.

There are several reasons why young people may not be aware of the voting process:

-
Lack of education: Many young people may not have received adequate education on the voting process and the importance of civic engagement.
-
Disinterest in politics: Some young people may feel disconnected from the political process and believe that their vote doesn't make a difference.
-
Inaccessible information: Young people may have difficulty finding information on the voting process and political candidates. They may not know where to look or may feel overwhelmed by the amount of information available.
-
Busy schedules: Many young people have busy schedules with school, work, and other activities, and may not have the time to research the voting process and political candidates.
-
Perceived barriers to voting: Some young people may perceive barriers to voting, such as long lines, difficulty obtaining an absentee ballot, or feeling intimidated at polling places.

GOALS
-
Be more educated about the political state of the world.
-
Encourage her peers to vote.
-
Be more aware of her legal rights.
Kelly is a student pursuing her degree in business from India. She shows a healthy interest in Indian politics and is a a staunch believer that more participation from the young adult populace into politics is the key to shaping a better tomorrow. But it makes her truly sad and frustrated when she cannot find a unified platform, a sort of one-stop area, where a person can sign up and keep track of the voting procedures happening around them. Managing school and researching to properly cast her vote makes her life truly difficult.

“Sometimes I get so frustrated trying to find how to vote I just want to scream, and then sometimes I actually do scream.”

FRUSTRATIONS
-
No way to differentiate between real and fake information.
-
No easy method to figure out the electoral system, like registration.
Her peers are not aware or interested about voting.

Getting Feedbacks:

-
After the lo-fi wireframes were designed, I created a prototype that I tested on several users. I created a research plan in which I outlined the research objectives, listed the questions to be asked, and wrote a script with the tasks to be completed.
-
After collecting the insights from the participants, I created an affinity diagram to look for a pattern in the participants; behavior and their frustrations while going through the prototype.
Findings
-
It was really confusing to find the “how to register” tab
-
More info on the ruling parties or candidates add on home page
-
Sharing a media on community tab is not an option. It also doesn’t show likes/dislikes

Responsive Design
I included considerations for additional screen sizes in my mockups based on my earlier wireframes. Responsive UX design is important because it ensures that websites, applications, and other digital products are optimized for use across a variety of devices and screen sizes. It's crucial to design digital products that can adapt to different devices and screen sizes.
Accessibility Considerations
I read aloud option on each of the registration process steps

My Takeaway
As a young adult, I have noticed a lack of adequate resources on voter education. With this project, I aimed to bridge this gap and gained a lot of valuable insights and knowledge in the process. Visualizing the way to portray overwhelming amount of information in an interactie way, while providing accessiblity tools, had been an exciting challenge for me. All the positive feedback on the final prototype has been encouraging for me to take on more such serious issues and solve them with user experience design.
